In 2008, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities among those under 21 also decreased nationally and in 38 states and the District of Columbia. Specifically the number of drunk driving fatalities among those under 21 dropped 19% from 1,872 fatalities in 2007 to 1,510 in 2008. Likewise, under 21 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities per 100,000 population declined 75% since 1982 and 23% over the past year .
